COPY-Fort Benning hearing set for medic accused in killing

PITTSBURGH An Army medic charged with killing another soldier in Iraq faces a pretrial hearing at Fort Benning, Georgia, tomorrow.

The hearing will determine whether there is enough evidence for a court-martial in the death of Private Dylan Paytas of Freedom, Pennsylvania.The Army says weeks before the soldier's death, Specialist Chris Rolan of Albuquerque, New Mexico, pointed a loaded handgun at another U-S soldier and threatened to kill him.Rolan is accused of fatally shooting Paytas and firing at Private Mastermichael Ramsey after an November 16th argument at operating base Warhorse, near Baqubah, Iraq.Rolan also accused of attempted murder for firing at Ramsey. Now, he's also charged with pointing a pistol at Specialist Richard Scarlett of Joshua, Texas, sometime between August First and September 15th.Tomorrow's hearing, formally known as an Article 32 hearing, will resemble a grand jury hearing.The sprawling Army post is located near the Alabama line.___Information from: Tribune-Review,
