Isaiah's Cooking on Today in Alabama

Named for Owner Isaiah Sankey, the restaurant opened in November 2003.  The whole Sankey family is on the operation.  The atmosphere is fresh and bright, with touches of homespun decor.

Isaiah and wife Johnnie Sankey cook up their specialty item fried green tomatoes to go along with smoked ribs.

Recipe for Fried Green Tomatoes:

   Sliced green tomatoes

(tomato wash)

2 cups buttermilk 1/3 cup corn meal 2 eggs 2 tsp season salt

Mix all ingredients well

(dry mix) 2 cups corn meal 1/4 cup flour 2 tsp season salt

Mix dry ingredients well

3 cups clear frying oil

Dip tomatoes in wash then place one at a time in dry mix (use aZip Lock Bag).

Shake well coating both sides of the tomato.

Place in hot frying oil.

Cook until golden brown.
