COPY-Cabbie's body found at Fort Benning

FORT BENNING, Ga. Investigators have identified a body found at Fort Benning as that of a missing taxicab driver, and say his death is being investigated as a homicide.

Post spokeswoman Tracy Baily says the victim, whose body was found Friday, was Gold Star cab driver Jack L- Horne Junior.

Columbus Police Sergeant Stuart Pratt says the case was turned over to the F-B-I. He declined to describe how Horne died.

Horne's body was sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy. Gold Star owner Jerry Halicki says a funeral cannot be set until the body is returned.

Fifty-five-year-old Horne gave his last radio report to the cab company at about 1 a-m on August Sixth after dropping off a passenger. Halicki says Horne told dispatchers he was on his way downtown for more customers, but he was never heard from again.

Horne's daughter, 17-year-old Angela, filed a missing person's report that day with the Columbus Police Department.

Horne's cab was found the following day at an apartment complex in nearby Phenix City.
