OPP, Ala. -- A deer that charged an Opp woman in her backyard, causing minor injuries when she fell, has been killed and its remains have been sent away for testing.
Diane Aughtman said she was walking the family dog Sunday evening when she heard some rustling in the underbrush.
She fell on gravel when she reached the carport, causing minor injuries that were treated at Mizell Memorial Hospital.
Aughtman told the Andalusia Star-News in a story today that the deer never touched her, but she got a black eye and scraped her face.
Opp Police Chief William Bill Shaw said an officer called to the house reported the deer was acting strange.
Shaw said there could be numerous reasons for the deer's erratic behavior other than rabies.
The officer said the deer was in obvious poor health, and it could have had a brain tumor or an injury of some kind.
