COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Police in Columbus, Georgia, say four people are in jail today in connection with Sunday's beating death of a Salem, Alabama, man.According to Police Lieutenant Steve Cox, the murder of 33-year-old Scottie Lee Gillens, a father of four, was planned. Cox said 19-year-old Melissa Ann Conaway of Columbus was arrested yesterday and was charged with murder and robbery. Three others -- 22-year-old Steven Allen Rouse, 18-year-old Anthony Dewberry and 21-year-old Charles Michael Mellinger -- all of Columbus, were arrested Sunday night. Rouse, Dewberry and Mellinger pleaded not guilty during a brief court appearance yesterday afternoon. Cox alleges that Conaway lured Gillens to a local neighborhood where he was attacked by the three. Police said Gillens died of blunt force trauma to the head and neck. The four were ordered held without bond in the Muscogee County Jail. Copyright 2006 Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
