Decision 2006: New Poll Out In Alabama Governor's Race

A new poll shows that Democratic Lt. Gov. Lucy Baxley has some catching up to do with eight weeks of campaigning left in her bid to unseat Republican Gov. Bob Riley.

The statewide survey shows Riley with a lead of 21 percentage points over Baxley. Riley was the choice of 55 percent of 500 likely voters. Baxley was the choice of 34 percent, while the rest said they were undecided.

In the race for lieutenant governor, the poll showed Republican lobbyist Luther Strange leading for Democratic Governor Jim Folsom Junior by a margin of 47 percent to 38 percent. The survey was taken for The Birmingham News, FOX6 and WAFF-TV. It's margin of error was plus or minus 4 percentage points. The telephone poll was conducted September 5-7.
