COPY-NASA veteran named director of Kennedy Space Center

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. NASA has named William Parsons to run the Kennedy Space Center launch site.

The 49-year-old veteran manager led the space shuttle program's return to flight after the 2003 Columbia accident.

Parsons will become director of Kennedy Space Center in January 2007, replacing the retiring James W. Kennedy.

The 57-year-old Kennedy has been director of the launch center since June 2003.

Parsons is the deputy director at Kennedy. Before that, he was twice the director of the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. He's also held high-level posts at Stennis and the Johnson Space Center in Houston.
