Alabama's GOP legislators unveil agenda

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Members of the House and Senate Republican Caucuses unveiled an agenda Wednesday that mirrors Governor Riley's re-election platform called "Plan 2010."

The Republican legislators picked a few things out of Riley's platform that they plan to make legislative priorities next.

Their plan -- called "Handshake with Alabama" -- includes tax breaks for the middle class, removing the state sales tax on over-the-counter medication, and a school construction bond issue of at least 500 million dollars.

House Minority Leader Mike Hubbard says that if they are successful in gaining a majority in both houses of the Legislature, then they plan to pass the tax breaks and other items in the first month of next year's legislative session.
