Leave Your Thoughts For Slain Officer's Family

Below are some of your thoughts regarding the Montgomery police officer shot in the line of duty on Thursday.

-----------------------------------

We do not know what to say. We are in shock and very hurt that someone would do this to Officer Hout. Please accept our support and prayers. Hold each other tight, and lean on God and the one around you.

Sometimes things happen that we don't understand, but we believe and know that God knows and this fine Officer is in the arms of God and the Almighty knows how to treat him. We who are on the outside looking in with hearts broken and breath abated must understand this and put this young man in the Will of God and we must stand there too, for He knows what can be done and what cannot be done. I used to be on the force and my heart breaks as if he is one of mine, and really he is. For the force is one thing that once it gets in your blood, it stays there. I want the family of this man to know that he is in our prayers and anything we can do we will.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Fred Rucker, Jr.

Please know that you are truly in the thoughts and prayers of the citizens of Montgomery, particularly Pastor Porter Osby, Jr., members, and friends of Beulah Baptist Church, Rosa L. Parks Avenue. Tonight at our Revival services during the altar call prayer, we prayed for God's will and divine intervention on your behalf. We don't know why some things happen, but we must continue to trust in God. We thank you, Officer Houts, for protecting and serving and may God be with you and your family.

I'm the wife of an 18 year veteran of Dothan's
Police force and to hear of this just brings me to tears. How normal life
must have been yesterday morning and then in a moment all changes.  I pray
God's mercy on the family as they go through this.  Your lives have
forever been changed.  I pray for the future of your family and that you
may find peace through all this chaos as there may be justice but there
will never be justification.

We may never know why this happened but we can count on the promise that God is in control and that through him comfort is found.  Our prayers are with Art and the MPD as it is devasting to them.  It is easy to express anger and hatred toward the one who did this but we are to hold him in prayer.  I am thankful for a leader as Art who sets a high standard for others to follow.

I pray that the Lord's grace and mercy helps your family to cope with such a tragedy. We live day to day knowing the risk that we take but when they come about is when we must lean and depend on the Lord to help us get through our times of sorrow. God bless your family and I will continue to keep you in my prayers.

My nephew, Bruce Evans, formerly of Montgomery County Sheriff's Dept. and Jackson County, MS Sheriff's Dept., was killed in the line of duty in Mississippi on July 18, 2000.  He would have been 37 tomorrow--September 30th.

So, our family knows the anguish of Officer Houts' family, the law
enforcement community, friends, church, everyone touched by this terrible
tragedy.

We lift his family and friends to God's throne of grace and pray for
strength during these awful times.  And we pray for justice.

Carole Weldon
-----------------------------------------------------------------
We are praying for your recovery. May God
strengthen you and your family during this difficult time, and may he give
your family peace and wisdom. Thank you for helping to make Montgomery a
safer place for all of us who live here. There are so many people who
depend on the job that our officers do, and when one of you is struck down
it really hurts the whole community. God bless you and hold you in His
arms. Johnnie and Lee Tucker

I want to extend a sincere sympathy to you

Such a tragedy, God have mercy on him and my
heart goes out to the family. No Police Officer should have to be an open
target by walking up to vehicles/the person or persons in questions should
have to get out and walk to them. Such a tragedy when our officers and
military are becoming endangered by our own citizens. God have mercy on
our nation.

An officer down brings a strong, frightening reality to the fore front, the streets are not safe. My prayers are with the MPD, their jobs are much too dangerous. There are too many uneducated,
unemployed, angry young men moving around looking and waiting on trouble.
I dare to say it isn't fair for the MPD to deal with this hell.I am afraid for them. My thoughts are with the Holts, their love one's life is in the Lord's hands.

The African American Community should rally behind

The Montgomery Police Department in support of cleaning
up the crime that exists in the community and give full

support to the young officer that was recently married and

on today was shot in the line of duty.

While there maybe sensitive issues that exist between the African American
Community and MPD. The African American Community can not stand idly by
and allow "Thug, slime and sleaze balls punks, and villians  to
take over the communities with crime"

Elderly people are afraid to walk in their communities, sit on their
porches and drive at night because of night  because of the criminal
activities committed by predators and creepers of  streets of  Montgomery.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
My comment isn't intended to address the
vilotent crime issue in our city but to ask the public to pray for officer
Hout and his family. The support and prayers of our community in their
time of need is the most comforting thing we can do at this stage. My God
be with you Officer Hout and your family.

Our thanks and support also extends to the men and woman of all law
enforcement who truly serve and protect.

Thanks and God Bless

I am still in shock at this heartless act. Officer Hout and his family are in my prayers.  I will continue to pray for the entire police force that God will keep you safe as you serve to
protect us.  Thank you so much for your willingness to put yourself on the
line day after day.

I am writing this to let you know that me & my entire family know exactly what your going thought right now.  It takes continueous prayer and committment on your part, the police department, extended family, close friends, brothers/sisters (prayer warriorers) in
christ, and the community. My entire family and our large extended family
are and will continue to pray for keith, his wife, parents, and friends
for as long as it takes.  My step-father is now a retired officer (who was
ran down by a druck driver while directing traffice) and my step-brother
is one of keiths fellow officers. Now remember God tells us that life and
death are in the power of the tongue, so speak postively about all things
and believe that what you say will happen and most of all stay close to
close put all burdens on him, have complete non waviering faith and he
said he go thought it every step of the way with us beside us before us,
and after us.  God Bless!!  Keith you hang on we're all behind you!!!

As the mother of a law enforcement officer, this is my greatest fear.  I hope you will take comfort in the fact that it takes a very special individual to put all else aside and take on the
job of protecting the public.  They are people who cannot imagine doing anything else.  The pay may be low, the hours long and the things they see heartbreaking, but they feel bound to this calling.  They are kind and strong and good.  They are sons and daughters and husbands and fathers of whom we are very proud.  As a member of the law enforcement family, you
have our heartfelt sympathy and our support should you need anything at
all.

Keith was an adorable little boy and He grew
to be a great man. He served his country and came back to serve his
community. I was told he always wanted to be a police officer. He got his
dream, not many of us do. He comes from a strong Christian background. His
family always went to Church and had lots of family get togethers. You
know the ones, the ones you see in magazines and commercials with lots of
family and food around. The kids in the backyard playing and the parents
around the kitchen and TV. His parents are very family- orinented. They
love the family life with kids and grandkids. I have always thought of
them as an example of how to live and raise kids. They love the Church and
their Savior. I got on my knees this morning with my kids and asked the
lord to leave my small menial problems and go help and comfort the parents
and family of Keith. Do His Will and help people to understand why this is
happening, and let them know that in time all things will be better. Keith
will pull through this, one way or the other; be it here on earth or in
heaven. If it be in Heaven, he would have accomplished another dream he
had. And for any one who is directly around the parents, give them a long
heart felt hug from my family. I have the faith in the Lord. He will do
the best for Keith and his family. Let's all just pray and hope that
others can find it, keep it and live the faith in the Lord. In Christ's
Name.

Please know that we are all praying for you all.  I hope they catch the perpetrator and I hope he gets the death penalty.  If he doesn't I will be glad to go protest with anyone who wants

are always here to help us when we need them, can be attacked like this
doing a routine traffic stop. This was completely senseless.   You all will stay in my thoughts and
prayers.

My thoughts and prayer are with the young officers and his families during these trying times. This act was entirely senseless. Our loving thoughts and prayers are with the Hout family and officer Hout.  We are proud of you and your commitment to serve the people of this city and to uphold the laws of the land.  Being
a military family and a family who has one of its own serving the streets every day we can only say that our hearts are broken and we are without understanding as to why so many view the gift of life so callously.  We will continue to hold you in our hearts and prayers and pray that you
feel the love of many in the city.  This affects all the people of Montgomery!

My thoughts and prayers are with the Houts family.  A horrible thing has happen to one of Montgomery's finest and I very sorry this has happen.  My husband is a retired MPD Officer of 20 years with other law enforcement experience.  His father spent 40 years
in Law enforcement and now we have a young son-in-law who graduated in the
spring of 2005' with MPD.  I believe this is a calling for men and women
who are willing to put their live on the line for others.  It's more
than a job and we need to honor and respect these people and families who
give so much.  Where would our Society be without these devoted men and
women. I pray for The Houts family and I pray that the man responsible for this
will be caught and brought to Justice.

I hope Officer Houst, makes a great recovery.

On behalf of the city of Montgomery, I would like to thank him for being one of Montgomery's finest and his family for sharing him with us. God bless officer Houst, his family, and all the MPD officers.

Since hearing of this tragic act yesterday, i know that I have been thinking of officer Houts family. I know many of the officers on the force through my profession and I know their dedication to the people of Montgomery and the surrounding community.

Please take comfort in knowing that your community and indeed people from across this country are praying for your family. God Bless, W. Hughes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am the mother of a city police officer Blaine Wilson, age 31, who routinely patrols in our South Alabama town.

I constantly have the mindset that he is doing the job he feels he was called to do even though I am often on edge listening to the scanner when I know he is working. Your son, I am sure, has a passion like my son for law enforcement, protecting and serving the community he loves. Those officers who have pledged to enforce the laws of our land place themselves in harm's way on a daily basis, because they feel it is their duty. Robert E. Lee said, "Do your duty in all things. You cannot do more, you should never do less." I know you are proud of your fine son and the duty he performed in an exemplary fashion. The entire City of Montgomery and the citizens of the State of Alabama who have been anxiously tuned in to the news on all of this are truly devastated. All of the officers, I am certain are more determined than ever to do their duty and rid our communities of these "thugs" as they say on the popular tv early morning show, "Good Morning, Montgomery."

Your family is in our thoughts and prayers at this time as is your courageous and brave son who rose "above the call of duty" to make a

difference. There are no others words I know to ease your sorrow other

than to quote a beautiful passage from Psalms, "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning."

We were very saddened to hear what happened to Officer Hout and would like to offer our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to him and his family. It breaks my heart to hear about these officers getting hurt or killed in the line of duty when they put their lives on the line each and every day to keep us safe - with little or no thank you.

The people they may be fighting may not be terrorists, but their actions are just as bad. It's so sad. I hope and pray that Officer Hout will be ok. God Bless.

One of my prayers has already been answered- -that the suspect would be attained. Now I know that God is watching and looking over every prayer request that has gone up. There is "power" in agreement. We can NEVER be moved by what we see in the "natural". For God's ways are past finding out. His works are always GREAT. May you receive your miracle and know that God is fully in CONTROL.

God is ALWAYS FAITHFUL to do exactly what he promised. When believers come together, the heavens move on our behalf. Remember when Jesus turned water into wine with barely a word? Imagine what he can do with a human body.

See through the eyes of faith and watch God "restore" and make "whole"

again everything that was touched. He is able..Miracles still happen :) Nakea

This story has greatly touched my heart, as well as my mother's. We have been in prayer for Mr. Houts since we heard of this terrible tragedy. I cannot reach Channel 8 nor Channel 12 news because I have a satelite in my home. However, my mother does have access to these channels. I have been calling her to find out Mr. Houts' status, even up until I fell asleep last night. It has really bothered us to know that someone could be so hard-heated and cruel. It's unbelievable. I am aware that incidents happen like this everyday, but this is so close to home. My family and I live in Thomasville, AL. So please know that even we care. We continue to pray for the Houts family. Thank God that this disturbed man has been caught before he hurts someone else. May God's Angels continue to hover over YOU - Mr. Houts. We'll keep praying. Q.

As a former Montgomery Police Officer and Asst. Director of the Montgomery Police Academy, I know the pain of every member of the Thin Blue Line. During my time there, three of my fellow officers died in the line of duty- George McGauhey, Billy Noble and Bobby Ussery. Although that was over twenty years ago, I often remember- -but for the grace of God...

My prayers and thoughts are with the MPD family and I pray that God's hand will heal this young officer. To the other MPD officers, stand tall and proud and know your call to duty is both noble and appreciated. God's speed to you all.

Our Friday Night Home Bible Study offers our prayers through our Lord and Saviour JESUS CHRIST. We know we live in a fallen world (sinful) but when we open our HEARTS to Jesus CHRIST He promises us safety in Him. He indwells us with His Holy Spirit of Protection and grants us Peace and understanding in the mist of this fallen world. Even in times of trouble (sin) in which we live it is very important that we accept JESUS CHRIST so that the adversary (satan) can't stop us from spending eternity in HEAVEN with GOD our Father. To the Officer's family and to the Family of the shooter if you would only open your HEART to JESUS Christ you will find the PEACE and understanding we are searching for and Christ will turn this event into a new begining. Our prayers is that we who are still here (on this earth) will make a difference in this fallen world through our FAITH in the Lord and Saviour JESUS. Romans 10:9,10.

Our hearts and our prayers are with the Houts family. We were very shocked and very saddened to hear of this horrific crime and hope that the person responsible pays for what he did. I know police officers are rarely thanked for what they do to portect us and our
families so I want to give a HUGE thank you to all of you for trying your best to keep us all safe, given what and who you have to deal with day in and day out. Personally I think we all need to think of those that protect and serve in our own backyard as well as those that are doing it for us overseas. Crime is crime no matter WHERE you live, and needs to stop. God Bless the Houts family, and please know that you have many, many people who are thankful and who care and love you.

First of all I just wanted to say thank you for having such a strong and selfless husband and son! He put his life on the line every day to keep us all safe! My father is also a police
officer in Montgomery and a solider in the National Guard. I have so much respect
for brave people like Officer Houts. I only wish I had the courage to do the things he did. Thank you so much for everything your family has given to us and our country! God Bless!! Your in our prayers!

Twelve years ago my family was where you are today.  My Father's cousin was a Montgomery Police Officer killed in the line of duty.  Nothing any person can say will ease the pain and sorrow you feel now but, as time passes it will get a little easier to say his name without tears.
Thank you Officer Houts for your service both her and away.  I know youare in Heaven looking down.  May God keep you in his arms and give you the eternal life you lived for.  You will never be gone because you will live forever in our hearts.

God Bless this family.

I am so sorry to hear of the senseless loss of Officer Houts.  As the daughter of a retired police officer, I feel as though I have lost a member of my own family.  Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with your family and the Montgomery Police Department.

Dearest Ashley and family.
I am a widow of a fallen police officer. My journey down this road started 3 yrs ago; so I know what you are going through. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I was comforted to know that your husband was a confessed Christian. Let that comfort you also; for you will see Keith again some day. Be strong, be proud. He is sitting at the feet of God at this very moment. You are all in my thoughts, in my prayers. Keith will not be forgotten.

----------------------------------

We cannot begin to imagine the pain that your family is going through. Such a senseless act by an individual with no respect for life nor authority. We so often forget the dedication that
the Officers must have to simply go to work every day. Their lives on the line each and every day so that we can go about our business. Officer Houts went through the academy with my step son such a short time ago, and our hearts are broken for your loss. After such a proud moment in time to such sadness. Our prayers are with you and we pray that justice is served.

It is truely a day that we will morn together. I can not say I know him personally but I have without a dought met him. And clearly he will be missed all over this state. Please do not
remember the tragedy of his death but the keeping of his spirit in how he walked
this earth while he was here. Remember for a short time that he was here to love you and to be remebered. Something good will come out of this I promise...So be strong in your faith. Wait on relief from GOD. Give his name history and life!

------------------------

I cannot begin to tell you how sorry I was to hear about the shooting of Officer Houts.  I did not know him but my heart goes out to his family and friends.  My husband was recently a victim of
a shooting here in Montgomery and I am so appreciative of the work and dedication of the MPD.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Sincerely,

Brent and Katrina Grier

As and African-American woman living in Montgomery, Alabama by way of the military I would like to say that this incident isn't about race it is about right and wrong and what the
accused did was horrible and beyond reproach. We pray for the family of the fallen
officer that they might find healing in time and we pray for the family of the defendant that they might find understanding. I would like to offer my deepest sympathy and grief over the incident. It has brought me to tears and the understanding that God takes those that we love to be with him and I know that Officer Houst is with God and at peace.

Sincerely, Nuelani McQueen

I can't imagine what your going throught at this time.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and may God give you strengh and consolation now and in the months ahead.

My prayers and thought are with you each day. When I heard of the shooting I immediately felt sad and heartbroken. I will continue to pray for your family. No one can feel the pain that you
are expressing at this moment. Pray to God each day to help with the loss of your love one and trust in God and he will heal your pain. Thank God for your love one who put his life on the line to save people lives. Your love one is truly a hero. He will be missed. My husband is a State
Trooper and their job is so dangerous and their life is on the line each day. We
can only pray each day as they go out to protect us. The job they do is
dangerous and that is what they chose to do and they love it so we can
truly say that they are our heros.
Sincerly,

It's hard to understand why people are taken from us, but find comfort in knowing you were a special part of such a well-lived life. When your heart is empty, filling it with happy
memories can help you find your smile. God is always in your corner at a time like
this. Just know when the Lord calls our loved ones home, he leaves a gift of memories in exchange. Make God be with your family, the police department and everyone else
that was affected. Keep the faith and trust in God. You're in our thoughts every step of the way.

My daughter, Jasmine , age 6 wanted me to send her sympathy to your family.  This is her letter to you:

Mr Hout's Family,
I am sorry the bad man hurt him.  Cops are good people and he should feel so bad that he did that.  I hope you are ok.  Don't worry, my uncle will take care of him in Heaven.  He will be okay, and you will, too.  Thank you
                    Jasmine

My personal appologies for this tragedy.  I want to thank you for allowing him to be a police officer, I know right now it may seem like a mistake, but the people of Montgomery were safer because of Officer Houts.  With time, this will get easier.  You will be in my prayers, as you have been since this happened.  God bless your family, and thank you again.

I just finished watching the service for you beloved Keith.  My heart aches for your families loss.  Hearing the words from his service I felt like I knew him eventhough I have never met him.
I am greatful and honored how he served our country and the City of Montg. and the way he lived his life by example.  I know in my heart he was a fine young man who clearly loved his family, country, friends and fellow officers.  But what comforts me the most was his love of Jesus Christ as his personal savior.  I know your greif is almost unbearable but remember to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and one day we will all will be reunited with Keith.  I too try to understand why such a fine young man has been taken much too soon but, I must tell myself God has work for Keith in heaven.  I pray for your entire family in the
weeks and months ahead that God will wrap his arms around you and comfort you as
you mourn your loss. I know God has a new angel now to fullfill his duties with our Heavenly Father.  Eventhough I live in Prattville, I personally am greatful and will never forget the ultimate sacrifice this young man made to protect our country and the City of Montgomery.

God Bless You All,
Krysta Shaner, Prattville

---------------------------------

Officer HOUTS has made his countrymen and fellow montgomerians so proud of its Son;his doubly, monumentally display of courage and sense of duty. my family deeply appreciates the men and women who answer the call of service daily, no matter the unforeseen hazards that await them.  in this sad, sad hour all   of us and hopefully, the perpetrator of this senseless, terroristic deed toward another human being are deeply grieved, our Officer's life, his supreme sacrifice  was required for all our safety.  we can't at this time fully understand all circumstances we must endure. we thank him for the service to our country in iraq, his answer for the last call to duty in montgomery.  along with your family so, too, will our family long remember his "Badge of Courage", which he wore so outstandingly!

-------------------------------------

Words can never begin to tell you how sorry that I am for your loss. My father was in law enforcement for almost 30 years and I know how stressful it can be at times. There were many
nights that I would lie awake and pray for his safe return. People that have never been in Public Service cannot begin to understand what a tightly knit family that we are. My whole family has been involved in the safety of the public for quite a long time now. My husband in is EMS as well as a firefighter and I pray for him every single day. Keep the faith and know
that you can always rely on your "police family." They will always be there for you and your family no matter what.

Sincerely,

Someone prayed for you today. Someone who knows you not, but still asked the Lord to watch over you. Someone prayed that your heavy hearts be lifted and that your sleepless nights be
filled with peaceful slumber. Someone prayed that God be by your side and that
he lets you know that all is well. Keith is now providing his services in heaven, while watching over each of you here on earth. Be strong for him, he'll always be a part our lives.

We at Kidz "R" Stars know that a badge shines bright on the shirt of blue. It takes a strong soul to wear it and a heart that's proud and true. You stand out on the streets ingnoring the insults
and the stares but, to us you are the heros, the protectors of our land. And when we ask you why are all those badges covered by a black elestic band, you tell us about a Brother,A cop who made a stand. May God bless you and keep you.

Our sympathy and prayers are with your family.  We lost our son 3 years ago to multiple myeloma cancer and we know what it is to lose a son and husband for our daughter in law.

As you traveled today along I-65, I hope that the respect Keith received was very joyous. May this bring peace to your healing hearts. No matter what or where he was very loved.. God Bless, and God Bless America

I was a dispatcher with the Montgomery Police Department for 24 years and on duty when four of our officers were killed.

I am now a dispatcher with the State Conservation Department. My husband and son were police officers and my mother was a sheriff's deputy.

Dispatchers are trained to be professional in times of crisis and not let their emotions show on the radio. Only when they leave their post do the tears flow and mine did many times during the years. How lucky we are to have men and women who go to work everyday to protect us! It is something we should never take for granted. My heart goes out to Officer Houts family because I have too have lost a child. My sympathy also goes out to his law enforcement family because even though I retired in 1998, my heart is there with you in your sorrow.

We've been trying to leave messages since the day of the shooting, but haven't had any luck. We wanted to tell the Houts family that our thoughts and prayers are with you and we also want to say thank you to all of the other officers as well, for everything you do to keep us safe and protected - especially with what is out there each day.

it's just so sad. I know words cannot bring Keith back or make the pain go away but I hope in time the pain will be easier to bare - and you can and will get thru this, with God's help.

many heartfelt hugs from a military family in Prattville

We know what you are going through is hard, but we just want you to know that you are in our prayers. Although i was not a police officer, I was in the military, so the pain of officer Houts is still as though i lost a brother that has sworn to protect and serve.

You will always have friends and family with us. Thank you and God Bless you. James, Mayumi, and Tatsuki Germany of Montgomery, Al.

I will be praying for all of the family, but I want to let Mrs. Houts know how my heart aches for her. We never see ourselves as widows this young, I am 31 and my husband died in Jan. You will have good days and bad, as hard as it gets remember God is with you.

I struggle with letting him(God) work in me but I do KNOW he is carrying me, and you at this time.

And to the rest of his family I say God Bless too. Understand that there are a roller coaster of emotions to come but God is with you and use the shoulders of the people he sets in front of you.

Angie

I am sorry for what has happened to your family. We do not know why these things happen, but if you will let the "LORD be your ROCK" he will see you through this time of saddness. Your family is in my prayers.
