Slain Montgomery police officer, Keith Houts, who grew up in Pleasant Grove near Birmingham, and his wife, Ashley, had both served in the military and met while on duty in Kuwait.
Staff Sergeant James King of Dothan served with Houts for a year in Kuwait as part of the 175th Maintenance Company based in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. King says Houts was a good guy who took his job seriously and was dependable.
In Kuwait from February 2004 to February 2005, Houts was the unit's historian, with duties ranging from reporting and photography to putting together a video and slideshow of the trip.
