MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Governor Bob Riley is working on behalf of Hyundai in an effort get the automobile manufacturer dismissed from a lawsuit stemming from land it owns in Montgomery.
He fears prolonged litigation will hurt the state's economic development.
Riley said last week that he has asked his legal counsel to speak with the landowners' attorneys.
The landowners contend a ploy by the Korean-based company allowed the state to pay one property owner about three times what the city and county paid others.
Hyundai is named as a defendant in a civil lawsuit that alleges former state officials as well as the city and county defrauded landowners out of millions of dollars for property now owned by the company.
Riley is concerned the legal action could hinder Hyundai or its suppliers from expanding in the county.
