LaNita Cook's Testimony

Dear Family and Friends,

My name is LaNita Cook and I am a candidate for Circuit Clerk in Montgomery County in the November General Election. I have almost 30 years of experience in the Sheriff's Office which includes the processing of court orders, lawsuits, subpoenas and the issuing of pistol permits. In addition to these duties I am familiar with the criminal process such as warrants, indictments and trials.  Also, as a Civil Officer IV, I assisted with the duties of the Sheriff's Office in the Elections as part of my job. These years of experiences will qualify me to serve as the Clerk of the Court.

I want to share with you a little about how I arrived at the decision to run for Circuit Clerk. Jeremiah 29:11-13 speaks of God having a plan for us, a hope and a future.  In 1990, one of my sons was experiencing some difficult situations as he made plans for his life after high school graduation.  I began to pray Jeremiah 29:11-13 for him.  I wanted him to find the hope and future God had for him. He is now married with children and God has blessed him in so many ways.  Having prayed these verses for him made a great impact in my life as well.  They became alive in my thinking about God's leadership in my life to bring me to the hope and plan He has for me. In 1999 the Clerk of the Court left to go to the federal court.  There were two years left on her elected term and a committee was taking resumes for that position.  God spoke and told me this was my hope and future.

I submitted my resume but did not have an interview.  Interviews were scheduled for those named on the top six resumes. This appeared to be a set back for me and so I again turned to God.  I prayed and knew in my heart that I was just to wait and hope in the Lord because His timing is always perfect.  When the time came two years later for the election, I was in Georgia taking care of my brother who was terminally ill with three different types of cancer. There was a deep awareness in my heart that my place at that time was with my brother. This year God has revealed to me this election is the time to run.

For about three weeks, I struggled with making the decision to take this big step.  As I prayed on March 16 of this year, I just simply said "If this is of you, Lord, I give you my all". Four days later, God gave me the amazing peace that this is the time to run.  In obedience to His leadership I am a candidate for Circuit Clerk.

Many in my church family, Morningview Baptist Church, have been prayer partners with me in this journey from 1999 to this year and they will continue to be my prayer partners. I am so tremendously blessed to have been a member of this church family for just over 20 years.

I ask for your help and support. I need your prayers, financial support and your vote.  If you are led to make a financial donation, may I emphasize that no donation is too small.  A donation of $10.00 will provide two yard signs.  Please pass this letter on to your friends.  I realize this letter may be going to people who do not live in Montgomery County, but your prayers and support would be most appreciated.  If you are a member of an organization or association and would like for me to speak to your group, please contact me.  It would be my privilege to meet and share more about myself with you.

"For I know the plans I have for you, " declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. Youwill seek me and find me when you seek me with all you heart. Then I will answer."
Jeremiah 29:11, 12 & 13
