The Music Ministry of First United Methodist Church attempts to provide a wide variety of opportunities for our membership to praise God with their talents. We hope that you might find a place for your God-given talent.
Cathedral Choir: The Cathedral Choir sings for the 11:00 a.m. service each Sunday and participates in such special events as The Festival of Christmas, Composer Weekend, Lessons and Anthems on Palm Sunday, and the Patriotic Concert. Rehearsals are usually held on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. The director is Jack Horner.
Chapel Choir: The Chapel Choir was begun in 1993 as a group of singers gathered to perform Celebrate Life. They sing every other Sunday at the 8:45 a.m. service and participate in major concerts with the Cathedral Choir. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. The director is Jack Horner.
Adult Ensemble: The Adult Ensemble is a select group of sixteen singers, formed in September 1995. They participate in worship services, community events, and are frequently called on to sing for weddings and community events. The director is Linda Gill.
Men’s Chorus: The Men’s Chorus is made up of members of the Chapel and Cathedral Choirs. The group sings for worship once a month and occasionally provides special music outside the church. The director is Jack Horner.
Cathedral Bell Choir: This group of adult women rehearses each week, September through May. In addition to providing handbell music for the Sunday morning worship services, they are called upon for special events. The director is Linda Gill.
Allegro Ringers: This is an adult bell choir which rehearses each Thursday evening from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m., September through May. This group plays for worship services and special concerts. The director is Linda Gill.
A nursery is provided during all adult rehearsals.
YOUTH AND CHILDREN
Youth Choir: The Youth Choir is made up of singers in the 7th-12th grades. The group sings for worship twice a month and usually tours each summer. The rehearsals are held on Sunday afternoons from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m The director is Jack Horner.
Genuine Bells: This handbell choir rehearses each Sunday from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. Membership is open to students in grades 7- 12. The director is Jack Horner.
Children’s Choirs: There are six Children’s Choirs that rehearse each Wednesday evening at 6:15 p.m., beginning the first Wednesday of September and culminating mid-April. The choirs sing periodically in worship services and present special programs at Christmas and in April. All of the Children’s Choirs sing on Choir Dedication Sunday in September, on Palm Sunday, and on Children’s day in May.

Wesley Ringers: The Wesley Ringers meet each Wednesday afternoon, from 5:00 to 5:30 p.m. Children in grades 4-6 are welcome. The director is Jack Horner.

Cathedral in the Pines Concert Series: Begun in 1995 this patron-supported series has become an important part of the music program. Such guest artists as Cynthia Clawson, Nielson and Young, the Gloucester Cathedral Choir, Ken Medema, and Noel Paul Stookey have presented free concerts in our sanctuary.
Music Scholarships: Music Scholarships are provided for college-aged students who participate in the music program. Contact Jack Horner for more information.
