The teenage mother of a baby found dead in a garbage bag in Tuskegee last week has been arrested.
Harvey Maxwell, chief probation officer with the Macon County Juvenile Court said today that the 15-year-old has been charged with "murder of a child less than 14 years of age." She has been charged as a juvenile, but the charge mirrors the capital murder charge in the adult system. Because she is a minor, her name has not been released.
The body of the baby boy was found in a bag in the backyard of an abandoned Tuskegee home on November 12. The girl's mother had taken her to the hospital early that morning. A doctor determined she had given birth. Macon County Coroner Hal Bentley said preliminary autopsy indicated the baby suffocated. Bentley said today he was waiting for additional autopsy test results.
