Man Charged in Two Teen Deaths Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter

DOTHAN, Ala. --  A 20-year-old Dothan man charged with killing two teens in a truck-car crash in January pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter.

Wellborn Pate Johnson avoided a murder trial and told a judge yesterday he was responsible for the deaths of 14 year-olds Arita Marie Scoggin and Kimberly Dawn Rabon after his pickup truck collided with a Buick Skylark driven by 16 year-old April Rabon.

The wreck happened January 13th in Columbia.

According to police, Johnson, who was 19 at the time, tested positive for marijuana and his blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.

Houston County Circuit Judge Jerry White sentenced Johnson to serve 26 years in prison. Under a plea agreement, Johnson must also pay thousands of dollars in fines and prosecutors plans to seek restitution for the victim's families.
