The Clanton Cake Lady

Who doesn't love a piece of caramel or chocolate cake? I know I do! And if you do, you need to drop by Cakes N' Candy and get ready to take in a southern favorite!

From morning to night what they're whipping up at Cakes N' Candy in Clanton started with a love for baking cakes. Sue Cleckler started selling cakes at the curb market in Montgomery. Little did she know, her passion would turn into a career.

All it took was a phone call to a bakery manager and after one taste, her cakes made it to the store shelves. Cleckler says, "Before we got back home to the shop he left a message for us to call him.  He said bring more cakes it won't be enough to last through the weekend." Now, her famous caramel, chocolate, red velvet and coconut cakes are shipped and sold at six to seven chains throughout the southeast.

Cleckler says, "I see a lot of caramel and chocolate cakes out there, but if you taste you can taste the difference." Clecker hasn't forgotten her days at the Montgomery Curb Market. You can still find her selling her cakes there. Despite her sweet success, she doesn't plan to stop. Cleckler says, "Even though I got the wholesale, I've gotten a good clientele there, repeat customers I've had for 30 years, and they say please don't quit coming and I don't plan to."

Cakes N' Candy is located off 7th street, which is also Highway 31 in Clanton. For more information give Sue a call at (205) 755-6565.
