On Tour in Andalusia: The Cultural Arts Center

Music and the performing arts are an integral part of any community, as are visual arts

The give children and adults, alike, a chance to express themselves.

Enter Andalusia's Old Church Street Elementary School.

Just picture, you will walk into this beautiful entry way and it will open into a marvelous gallery.

Arts Center committee chair, Barbara Meredith Nichols says when it came time to discuss the future of this old building the city's art community was first on her mind.

She explains, " You know what, if we build it, they might come. The idea being that we could turn this building, which is a historic building, into a cultural arts center."

It wouldn't be just a gallery.

Upstairs, Nichols envisions lecture and rehearsal halls. Downstairs, she sees studio space including a demonstration kitchen.

It's an opportunity for students and adults to come into the building and experience hands-on art.

Barbara and the rest of her ad-hoc committee look forward to pursuing their dream, and they're confident it will become a reality.
