Montgomery Soldier Killed In Iraq

WSFA 12 News on top of breaking news. The Department of Defense has just announced the death of an Alabama soldier killed while fighting in the war in Iraq.

Specialist Matthew T. Bolar of Montgomery died Thursday in Baghdad. He died from wounds when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit during combat operations. Bolar was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, from Fort Richardson, Alaska.

Matthew is the son of Anne and Vernon Adkins. Anne is Vice President of Marketing for Raycom Media which owns WSFA 12. His family says Matthew graduated in 2002 as valedictorian from Canterbury High School in Montgomery. This was his second tour of duty in Iraq.

In addition to his parents, Matthew is survived by his sister Emma, a graduate of St. James School in Montgomery.
