Troy Outslugs UAB, 20-15

TROY, Ala.- The Trojans pounded out 23 hits and four home runs off of nine Blazer pitchers as they beat UAB 20-15.

UAB (20-30) jumped on the Trojans pitchers in the first inning as they hit three singles, a double and three home runs to take an early 7-0 lead. Troy (30-20) answered back with six runs of its own. Senior Ian Craze led off the first inning with a single and scored on a single form senior Edgar Ramirez.

Senior Clint Robinson, who missed the last two games with an ankle injury, hit his sixteenth home run of the season over the net in right field. Senior Josh Dew doubled and scored on a home run from senior Kevin Weidlich. Sophomore Trevor Tyre followed with a single and scored on a deep sacrifice fly from freshman Shohei Fujita closing the gap to 8-6. Ryan Keedy hit his second home run of the game in the second inning to increase the Blazer lead to 8-6. Levi Paton and Phil Bell each homered in the third increasing the lead 10-6. Sophomore Beau Brooks doubled to right in the third and scored on an RBI single form Craze closing the score to 10-7.

Troy added two more runs in the fourth when Dew singled and scored Weidlich's second home run of the game making the score 11-9. Troy exploded in the sixth inning when Craze singled and scored on a double from Ramirez. Robinson doubled and scored along with Ramirez on a two-RBI single from Dew. Dew scored on a single by Weidlich who scored on a home run from Tyre giving the Trojans their first lead of the night at 15-11.

UAB added four runs in the seventh on four hits including a two-run home run by Ryne Lovahl. Troy added three more run in the seventh to pad its lead and close out the game 20-15. Freshman Time Wheeler got the start on the mound going 2/3 of an inning and giving up six runs on six hits. Neal Jordan (1-1) got the win on the mound hurling three innings while giving up four runs on four hits and striking out two. Senior Bert Elliot and Dew threw the final two innings to close out the evening.

The Trojans were led at the plate by Craze, Robinson, and Dew who each had four hits and three RBI. Weidlich, Brooks, and Ramirez added three hits. Weidlich had five RBI and Ramirez added three.

Troy will close out its home schedule with a crucial conference series against New Orleans this weekend. First pitch Friday night is set for 6 p.m.
