Scary moments at West Forest Intermediate School in Opelika on Thursday when officials discover a students has a gun.
School officials say they were told by another student that the fifth grader had a loaded nine millimeter in his back pack.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Neighbords said it's unclear how he got the weapon, but says parents should keep a close eye on these things.
The 12-year-old will be held in the Lee County Youth Development Center until his court proceedings.
