Budget Battle Ruling

At least 4 members of the Montgomery City Council are smiling over $1.4 million dollars.

Circuit Court Judge Charles Prices ruled against Mayor Bright saying he didn't have the power to veto the budget, a budget that included discretionary funds for Councilmembers.

Judge Price based his ruling on an Alabama Supreme Court opinion, but Bright still believes discretionary funds are illegal.

Bright says "The taxpayers money is sacred as fas as I'm concerned.  It needs to be put in the General Fund."

However, Montgomery Councilwoman Janet May says, "Feeling that it's illegal is no reason to not put it in the budget when it was duly authorized by the Council."

Mayor Bright says he'll let his city attorneys advise whether he'll appeal.
