South Alabama Mobile Newsroom: Dale County Jail Unrest

Two violent criminals may face attempted murder charges after an escape attempt from the Dale County Jail.

Kotoni Tellis and Kent Stewart are accused of beating two jail employees when they tried to escape late Friday night. The sheriff says after the two guards got away, the incident touched off more violence from about 50 other inmates. One jailer spent the weekend in intensive care. The second man is now recovering at home.

The two men accused of touching off the incident are now in a state prison their case will go to a grand jury.
