Empty Buildings
Driving on the East South Boulevard a few weeks ago, I counted ten empty buildings just on the main artery. Old restaurant sites, empty Mall spaces and child care centers dot the landscape. We are moving farther east and leaving holes in the Market economy in the middle of town. Dilapidated houses, vacant lots and empty warehouses can become breeding ground for mice and rodents of all kinds. About ten years ago, The OIC (Opportunities Industrialization Center) took an abandoned lot over and created a community on the west side with new housing and apartments for the residents. They still look as good as they did ten years ago. Montgomery needs to grow again, from the INSIDE out.
