CrimeStoppers: Off Duty Sheriff's Deputy Witnesses Robbery

What began as a day of travel for an off-duty Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy ended in a hot pursuit.

The deputy stopped at a service station in Hope Hull for gas and coffee and walked up on what investigators are calling a till-tapping.

Investigators say "When the clerk opened up the register she rang him and he reached over and grabbed the money out of the till."

Investigators say the off duty officer identified himself and tried to take down the suspect.

The robber fought back and led the deputy on a chase around the facility.

This is when another suspect driving the get-away-car rolled into the service station in a 1990's green Chevy Lumina.

He picked up the suspect and attemped to run over the Sheriff's Deputy.

The officer fired shots at the vehicle as they drove away.

Everyone including the cashier walked away from this incident without injuries, but investigators say these men have the potential to harm someone else.

"Anytime you have a robbery of this nature when they go into a business reach over and snatch money out of a register, yes they are a threat to society."

Investigators are searching for 2 African American male suspects,

One is 5 foot 6 inches tall,  165 pounds and near sighted. He was wearing a white t-shirt and black jeans with Timberland brown boots and a black ball cap at the time of the robbery.

The other suspect was driving a 1990's green Chevy Lumina with an Alabama license plate that reads 3A8242B.

If you have any information on either of these suspects, please call 215 STOP.
