Scott Simmons received an endorsement from the local chapter of the Police Benevolent Association. Members of the group say they believe Simmons would do more to return the police department to full staff if he were elected mayor.
"We felt like if he was elected mayor and was able to accomplish what he set forth, we would be able to provide more officers on the street," said Jay King of the Police Benevolent Association.
"It means even more that this same group has endorsed Mayor Bobby Bright the last to elections. And this time, they have chosen to support Scott Simmons for mayor," said Simmons.
No word yet on any endorsement from the other major law enforcement association-- The Fraternal Order of Police.
