Drought Takes Toll on Alabama Lakes

With triple-digit temperatures holding steady, there is no doubt that the heat of summer is on.

Looking at local lake levels, however, it appears to be the middle of winter!

The drought has taken a toll on Alabama Power's storage reservoirs.

Now, officials say the company's six reservoirs are approaching levels not typically seen until early December.

Without relief soon they'll be lower than ever.

Lakes Nelly, Henry and Logan Martin on the Coosa River and Lake Harris on the Tallapoosa River are expected to hit their winter pool levels in the next few days.
