Remembering Officer Keith Houts

September 28, 2006 is a sad day the Montgomery Police Department will never forget.

One year ago, Officer Keith Houts was shot during a routine traffic stop.

Officer Houts was quickly rushed to Jackson Hospital in critical condition.

He died two days later.  Mario Woodward is charged with capital murder and is awaiting his day in court.

As the one year anniversary approaches the Montgomery Police Department wants to pay tribute to the sacrifice Officer Houts and his family made.

Chief Art Baylor says he thanks the support the community showed for the Montgomery Police Department during that time.

Mayor Bobby Bright says of Houts' service, "The tragic loss of Officer Keith Houts is one the saddest episodes in Montgomery's history. He made the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting the citizens of Montgomery. Although he is no longer with us, he continues to be an inspirational presence in our hearts."

The community is asked to remember Officer Houts on the one year anniversary of his death by observing a moment of silence in his honor at noon, Sunday September 30.
