Update: Tuscaloosa Police Officer's Condition

Tuscaloosa Police Officer Capt. Michael Everett is continuing to recover from injuries suffered after an offduty wreck Wednesday.

Officials tell WSFA 12 News that Everett's health continues to improve in a Montgomery hospital and his injuries are not considered life threatening.

Everett was airlifted to Jackson Hospital in Montgomery after a serious motorcycle accident.

He was traveling southbound on Interstate 85 near exit 22 (Macon County) when his motorcycle hit a large oil spot in the roadway.

The accident occured sometime before 11:30 Wednesday morning.

Everett, recently admitted to the FBI Academy, was returning from Auburn were he had attended the Annual Training Conference of the Alabama Chapter of the FBI.

Both southbound lanes of I-85 were initially closed while troopers conducted an investigation.

Sand was placed on the oily area of the road and traffic was then reopened.

State Troopers are still looking for the vehicle that spilt the oil.
