October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

It's a month set aside to raise awareness about a vicious cycle that often traps women in dangerous situations.

Did you know that each year more than 1,200 women in the United States are murdered by their intimate partner?

One in four women experience domestic violence at some point in their lives.

Domestic violence occurs in all communities with no regard to race, religion or income.

Did you also know that 50 to 60 percent of children are abused when their mother is a victim of domestic violence?

Thursday Alabama Live is focusing on this topic and much more.

Melanie Beasley with the Family Sunshine Center, a place that provides counseling and shelter for women and children who are escaping domestic violence gives insite on this topic.

Also, Coach John Mcwilliams, Huntingdon College's tennis coach is on the Alabama Live! set.

McWilliams shows how the game of tennis is helping to provide hope for families through the sunshine center.
