Faulkner Hoops Ranked #3 in NAIA Poll

The Faulkner basketball team is No. 3 in the preseason NAIA poll, as tabulated by the Victory Sports Network. VSN is the official publicity website of the NAIA.

The Eagles are coming off a Southern States Athletic Conference regular season championship and a deep run in the 2007 NAIA national tournament, making it all the way to the Fab Four before falling to eventual national champion Oklahoma City. The core of last season's team, which finished 24-11, returns - including guards Richarde McCray, Bryant Murray, Josh Gholston and Jeremy Lunn, and forwards Jon Uriarte, Brandon Vaughn and Aaron Greenwood.

"We're honored to be picked so high, but we still have to play the games," head coach Jim Sanderson said. "It's fun for the student body and our fans. But just as we see in college football, where more than half of the teams in the top 10 right now weren't even ranked in the preseason, early polls like this just don't mean too much.''

Faulkner opens its season Nov. 10 when it hosts Mobile at Tine Davis Gymnasium.
