Kentucky Strikes Back

Kentucky is stepping up efforts to lure Hyundai to build an assembly plant there, instead of in Alabama. The Korean automaker is deciding between Glendale, Kentucky or a site near Montgomery.

The Kentucky general assembly is scrambling to pass an incentive package similar to Alabama's. Alabama's legislature approved 118 million dollars in bonds for worker training programs and other incentives. This week Kentucky lawmakers are working on legislation creating a special tax district to fund fire, water sewer and other services for Hyundai. Kentucky is also offering to widen Interstate 65 and build traffic ramps near the proposed plant site.
