Tuskegee City Councilman Convicted

Macon County, Ala. Oct. 18, 2007 -- A Tuskegee City Council member's future is uncertain after being convicted of perjury.

Councilman Lutalo Aryee was convicted of perjury in a Macon County courtroom.

The District Attorney says Aryee lied about where he lived to claim a homestead exemption.

That exemption would effectively lower  the councilman's tax rate.

The Mayor and Tuskegee attorneys are now considering how Aryee's conviction could affect his city council seat.

Aryee represents District One and is serving his first term on the Council.
