Consider these rather amazing facts about the economic growth of the greater Montgomery area:
Since 1990, new industries have generated 2.1 billion dollars in capital investment. The employment base has grown by 22% and the number of unemployed persons has dropped 31%. In per capita income Montgomery County is third highest in the state behind only Shelby and Jefferson counties. Our hospitality and tourism industry has grown 100% since 1995.
Consider the over 1 billion dollar downtown Montgomery riverfront development. Riverwalk stadium. The Hyundai plant.
Although no single person, group or organization is responsible for this success story, the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce has certainly played a key role.
The Chamber unites the business community with elected and civic leaders, and the resulting partnership is a catalyst for change and momentum, moving the city and region forward.
Twice under the Forefront initiative the Chamber was recognized as one of the Top Ten Economic Development Organizations in the United States.
In addition, the Chamber's Convention & Visitor Bureau was named CVB of the Year.
We applaud the work of the chamber and celebrate its recognition.
The chamber is currently in the middle of its annual Total Resource Campaign. We urge all businesses in the River Region to become members and participate in the projects and events of the chamber.
