Southern Homes & Gardens Forced To Cancel Lights Show

Thousands of Christmas lights are gone, ending a decade-old holiday tradition in Montgomery.

Southern Homes and Gardens on the Wetumpka Highway began its "Light the Way" charity display back in 1998. But, when organizers went to unpack the displays this year, they were missing. They say someone loaded up truckloads of lights and hauled them away.

Russell Brown works with SH&G. He tells WSFA 12 News, "It was thousands of dollars of lighting stolen from us. And the main reason it was stolen ties into this whole series of thefts of copper. It's copper wiring in the lighting and someone stole it to and sell the copper lighting."

Proceeds from the annual display benefited the Salvation Army. Southern Homes and Gardens still plans to make a financial contribution.
