Woodley Manor is one of 56 nursing homes across the country considered among the worst in their states."All the facilities are admitted because of problems with resident care," said Rick Harris with the State Health Department.
The federal government put out the report. It names facilities that failed to make improvements after inspectors flagged the homes for serious deficiencies like, "pressure sores, accidents, falls," Harris said.
Harris says the report may not have enough information to make a fair assessment. He tells us, "Woodley Manor, in my opinion, does not meet the criteria."
Harris says the health department did a follow-up survey November 8th. It showed Woodley manor made significant improvements. "Most nursing homes that got a survey like that with be pleased with their performance," said Harris.
Harris says a facility must get two consecutive surveys that show improvement to be taken off the list. We attempted to contact Woodley Manor for its reaction to the report. The person who answered the phone hung up on us.
Another Alabama nursing home was named in the report. Eastview Health Care Center in Birmingham.
