WSFA 12 News Update: Montgomery Police Shooting Investigation

WSFA 12 News has the latest on a weekend shooting involving Montgomery Police.

The officers say they shot the driver of a car fleeing from a traffic stop. They claimed man was trying to run over a patrol officer. Now, WSFA 12 News knows the officer's name. According to a police report, he is Officer J.A. Norgard.

Police say 20-year-old Quandell Williams attempted to use deadly force in the incident on Smiley Court in Montgomery. He was hit at least twice by gunshots.

MPD tells WSFA 12 News "multiple" officers are on leave, but they will not say how many. The case is under investigation by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, which is customary when a police officer is involved in a shooting.

Meantime, at last check, Quandell Williams is in critical but stable condition in a Montgomery hospital.
