The Director of the Lee County Humane Society is braving the cold weather.

She locked herself in a cage to raise money for the thousands of animals that come through the shelter each year.

This year they provided food, shelter and love to more than 5,000 cats and dogs either abandoned or lost by their owners.

The director, Heather Meadows is honoring each animal by locking herself inside the cage, where she will live for the next few days.

"Our goal is to promote spaying and neutering, and also help our community be aware of how many animals that come through our shelter this year. We have had a little over 5,700 animals come through, and our goal is to raise $3 for every one of these animals," says Meadows.

Meadow's monetary goal is $18,000.

If you live in the Lee County Area and would like to make a donation, you can stop by the Kroger grocery store on Glenn Dean or at the Lee County Humane Society.
