Mayor Issues Red Flag Warning

The city of Montgomery is issuing a New Year's warning for local nightspot owners.

Mayor Bobby Bright issued the red flag Friday morning, along with police and fire officials.

In past years, some Montgomery nightclubs allowed too many people inside, well above the business' rated capacity.

Bright says the city will once again take a close look at any business that brings in large crowds to make sure that doesn't happen again.

"There's no such thing as a slate wiped clean," Bright says, "What happens is people have a history and we have to consider that history from previous occasions."

Meanwhile, the city is also continuing another New Year's Eve tradition of offering free cab rides home for anyone who needs them.

Checker Deluxe Cab Co. will take calls through the city at 241-2651 for a ride from any nightspot to a home or apartment.

The city is picking up the tab.

WSFA 12 News will take an indepth look at overcrowding tonight on WSFA 12 News at 6:00.
