Tuskegee Fire Chief to Take Leave of Absence

The city of Tuskegee's fire chief is taking an administrative leave of absence.

Fire Chief Derrick Swanson will take leave from his regular duties in order to take advantage of professional developement opportunities at the Alabama Fire College.

Swanson will remain on leave for about six months.

In the meantime, Assistant Fire Chief Fred Iverson has been named Acting Fire Chief by City Manager Alfred J. Davis.

"I'm excited and humbled with the opportunity to serve Tuskegee in this capacity," says Iverson. " I look forward to working with an outstanding department of professionals, the city manager and other city department heads."

Iverson has more than 25 years of experience in the department having worked his way up through the ranks.

The appoinment will remain in effect from January 1, 2008 until June 30th when Swanson is scheduled to return.
