Motorcyclist with History of Citations Hurt in Huntsville Chase

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A motorcyclist with a history of traffic violations was critically injured when he crashed into the back of a car while apparently fleeing state troopers on Interstate 565.

Wesley Albritton of Athens was taken to Huntsville Hospital suffering from numerous fractures from the crash that occurred about 3 p.m. Thursday.

Albritton is listed in serious condition today.

Troopers said Albritton reached close to 100 miles per hour at one point during the brief chase and witnesses said he was thrown 30 feet into the air and about 50 yards down the highway by the impact.

Court records showed Albritton has been ticketed multiple times for speeding, driving under the influence, reckless driving and following too closely since May 2003.

He had at least nine scheduled court dates this year for violations, including one for driving with a suspended license.
