Opelika Man Earns Statewide Honor, Named 'Chef of the Year'

Opelika, Ala. (AP) - Chef Peter Idsall is "Alabama's Chef of the Year," but instead of keeping his gold star-topped trophy at home to himself, the token of excellence is displayed at the fine dining restaurant where he works.

That's because Idsall says it took a crew to create gold.

Idsall is the executive chef at the Auburn-Opelika Marriott at Grand National where he's worked since 2003.

Layne Lunn of the Alabama Restaurant Association says the awards recognizes the culinary professional who exemplifies excellence through a combination of uniqueness and creativity.
