50K Gallons of Gas Leak from Alex City Gas Station

Cleanup is underway at an Alex City gas station after thousands of gallons of gasoline were spilled.

Officials with the Alabama Department of Environmental Management have confirmed more than 50,000 gallons of gas spilled around Allen's Food Mart.

They say the spill was caused by leaks in gas pipes stored underneath the station.

Clean-up crews are trying to minimize environmental damage.

Officials say there is no danger for people living or working nearby.

However, it could take years to complete the cleanup.
