Alleged Vandals Charged as Juveniles in Confederate Monument Incident

WSFA has new developments in a story we've been following since November.

The Montgomery County district attorney's office says three montgomery teenagers who are accused of vandalizing the confederate monument on the State Capitol grounds will be tried as juveniles.

State capitol police charged each of the 17-year-olds with first-degree criminal mischief, which is a felony.

Officers discovered the vandalism on November 11th.

The juveniles are scheduled to make their first court appearance in February.

An historic preservation expert from bessemer is still working to get that black paint removed from the monument.
