Chilton County authorities are still looking for an inmate that escaped from the work release program at the Chilton County Courthouse late Wednesday night.

The inmate stole a car owned by a Probate Office clerk.

Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis identified the suspect as Warren Roman Nix, who is originally from the New Convert and Campbell community in western Chilton County.

Nix, while in the work-release program, allegedly stole the keys from the clerk's purse and drove off in her car between 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday.

That car is described as a 2003 Black Ford Expedition. A liscence plate number has been identified as "MYSUV".

At the time of the escape, Nix was in the custody of courthouse custodian Lloyd Nutter instead of a sheriff's deputy.

Nix was in jail on theft of property charges.

If you have seen Nix, you are asked to contact the Chilton County Sheriff's Office immediately at (205) 755-1053.
