Graduation Coaches Help Prevent Drop-Outs

A new pilot program is bringing a new kind of coach into Alabama's schools -- one whose goal isn't to win athletic events, but to help students win in the classroom.

They're called graduation coaches. Their goal is to prevent students from dropping out of school. They work with the students, parents and teachers to help solve problems both in and out of school.

The pilot program is funded by a federal grant. It's currently in 25 schools, including Reeltown, Carroll, Jemison, Greenville, Goshen and Dallas County high schools.
