Covering Coffee County: Sheriff's Department To Get Helicopter

The Coffee County Sheriff's Department is asking for some wings - the rotary kind.

The county commission has approved Sheriff Dave Sutton's request to buy a patrol helicopter.

The sheriff wanted the chopper because his department was forced to rely on other agencies for aerial help.

Ronnie Whitworth, the Chief Deputy for the sheriff's department, tells WSFA 12 News, "We have had to call other helicopters in or other agencies that have helicopters in several times to do things that we're working on here, manhunts, escapees, things of that nature, and they were viable in those areas, and they worked out well, and I think that it's going to be an asset to the county."

The commission approved the purchase in a 4-3 vote.
