The Barbour County Sheriffs Department is investigating a dead body found alongside U.S. 431 early this morning.
At around 5 a.m. Monday morning Sheriffs Deputies responded to call that a body was laying on the side of the road south of Eufaula.
When Deputies arrived on the scene they found an 37 year old white male dead on the ground next to his pick-up truck.
Deputies say a window in the man's truck was broken, but they say he shattered it to get his keyes out after locking them inside.
At this point, investigators are trying to figure out how the man died. An autopsy is underway, and unitl the results of that autopsy come back, the sheriff says they will continue to keep all options open in this investigation.
Sheriff Leroy Upshaw said, "the cause of death is undetermined at this moment, we are investigating it as a homicide until we can prove it's otherwise."
The identity of the man has not been released, authorities are still contacting the next of kin.
If you saw anything that could aide in the investigation you are asked to please contact the Barbour County Sheriffs Office at 334-775-1103.
