High Speed Chase Ends in Arrest

An East Alabama man traveling through Montgomery tried to outrun police Sunday.  What started as a routine checkpoint, turned into a high speed chase on Gibson Street in north Montgomery.

Police were checking drivers licenses and proof of insurance Sunday morning, but one driver sped off nearly hitting an officer.  He led police down the Northern Boulevard and Interstate 65 at speeds upward of 90 miles per hour.  He even reversed directions at times to try and get away.  He eventually blew a tire on Fairview Avenue.

Police identify the man as 29 year old Shannon Lightsei of Phenix City.  Lightsei is wanted on a series of outstanding warrants.  Now he's facing charges of reckless endangerment and attempted to elude an officer, among several other charges.
