Montgomery Police Investigate Second Murder of 2008

Montgomery, Ala. (WSFA) -- Montgomery police are investigating the city's second murder of 2008.

Investigators responded to a report of a subject being shot in the 2500 block of Lark Drive late Tuesday night.

Police say 27-year old Mark Watkins had a single gunshot wound to the back and was lying face-down inside the doorway of the residence.

According to police Watkins was conscious but would not provide any details to detectives.

He died Wednesday morning at Baptist South Hospital.

Another man inside the house told investigators the two had been drinking alcohol when they heard a car horn in front of the house and Watkins went to see who it was.

The man said several minutes later he heard a single gun shot and Watkins walked in through the front door and collapsed.

Police don't have any suspects at this time, but based on evidence they believe it appears to be drug related.

If you have any information on this case you are asked to call Montgomery Police Department at 241-2651 or Secret Witness at 262-4000.
