Original Tuskegee Airman Honored

CONYERS, Ga. (AP) - City and U.S. postal officials have honored a suburban Atlanta man who was one of the original Tuskegee Airmen.

Conyers Postmaster Tim Payne says that 85-year-old Vernon Sport of Conyers is a true American hero for serving with the famous group of black pilots during World War Two.

Mayor Randal Mills proclaimed February 15th as Vernon K. Sport Day.

Mills says Sport has been an inspiration to young people by triumphing over societal obstacles.

Sport's fellow Tuskegee Airmen -- Wilbur Mason and Val Archer -- also gathered for the Friday celebration.
